An exhibit set to open Sunday will focus on Bruce Springsteen’s career and his life growing up in New Jersey.
The exhibit is being hosted by the Monmouth County Historical Association Museum in Freehold. Items in the exhibit feature things like a scrapbook that Springsteen’s mother kept during his rise to stardom.
“As a mother myself, just the idea that she saved all the clippings for her son, that really touches me,” says co-curator Bernadette Rogoff. “I think that’s beautiful.”
Rogoff says the goal of the exhibit is put Springsteen’s life into the context of the time and place he grew up. The exhibit even recreates a vintage look of downtown Freehold.
There are around 150 items in the exhibit, which were loaned by archivists, collectors and Springsteen himself. Other items on display include a jacket and pair of boots from the Tunnel of Love-era of Springsteen's career. And posters going back to his earliest days with his first band, The Castiles.
The exhibit will be open to the public through the fall of 2020. More information can be found on the Monmouth County Historical Association website.
