The Jersey City fire chief says a fire on Skyline Drive displaced 17 people Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say that the fire broke out around 3 p.m. on the second floor of the apartment building at 2 Skyline Drive.

He says the fire also spread to the roof area of 4 Skyline Drive next door.

Fire Chief Steven McGill says all of the residents were able to make it out of the buildings before help arrived.

News 12 New Jersey is told that there were no life-threatening injuries. Just one resident was taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

McGill says that knocking down the fire was quick and easy thanks to the fire department’s training and pre-planning, that actually happens on Skyline Drive.

The Red Cross says they are assisting those in need with food, housing and clothing.
