Health officials: 2 more people in New Jersey infected with mosquito-borne virus

Posted: Updated:

State health officials have confirmed two more people in New Jersey have become infected with a severe rare mosquito-borne illness.

According to the state department of health, the new cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis were found in Atlantic and Union counties -- bringing the total number of cases in the state to three

The disease is also called EEE, and is fatal in 30-percent of cases.

State health officials say there is a vaccine for horses, but not for people.

The only way to protect yourself is to take measures to prevent mosquito bites.
