Police: 2-year-old boy struck, killed by dump truck in Stanhope

A 2-year-old boy has died after being struck by a dump truck on Route 206 in Sussex County.
The incident happened around 11:15 a.m. Monday near Acorn Street.
A neighbor tells News 12 New Jersey that she heard screams outside the home and saw a young boy laying on the ground next to the truck.
Police say that two passing motorists began performing CPR on the boy before first responders arrived. The boy was taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police say that the truck driver stayed on the scene and that the incident is under investigation.
The family who lives at the home in front of where the crash happened has placed a cross and teddy bear on the sidewalk outside.
Route 206 was closed for several hours in the area around the crash, but has since reopened.
