Officials in Mount Laurel have charged a 23-year-old woman with fatally stabbing her mother.

The incident happened Friday around 3:30 a.m. at the home they shared at the Ramblewood Village Apartments.

According to police, Marisa Rivera fatally stabbed her mother, Denise DeNapoli, 56, and then ran away.

Police say DeNapoli's body was discovered by them after they were sent to the home by her employer to conduct a wellness check after co-workers failed to hear from her.

Rivera was arrested hours later at a hotel on Route 73 and taken into custody.

She’s been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, among other charges.

A motive remains unknown at this point.
