A former Franklin Township police officer who overdosed while on duty will not go to prison.

Matthew Ellery was instead sentenced to five years probation.

Authorities say he was working the overnight shift in Franklin Township when he stopped responding to radio calls.

Another officer managed to revive him using Narcan. He no longer works for the department.
