The Monmouth University football team is ready to kick off its 2019 season.

The Hawks say that they are looking in improve on last year’s 8-3 record.

Head coach Kevin Callahan is entering his 27th season with the team.

He returns seven starters on defense and six on defense, including quarterback Kenji Bahar.

Callahan says that despite losing one of his star players like receiver Reggie White Jr., he has a talented team.

"I'm not concerned about what we've lost. What I'm concerned about is what we have and who we have coming back,” he says. “I'm excited about the talent level, the athletic ability and the skill level of all these players coming back.”

The team opens its season Aug. 31 at Western Michigan.
