Lawmaker faces backlash after calling man ‘jerk’ on Twitter for leaving 74-cent tip

A lawmaker in Monmouth County is being criticized after calling someone on Twitter a ‘jerk’ for leaving a 74-cent tip on a bill over $100.
Republican Sen. Declan O'Scanlon outed the man, by name, after hearing about a customer at the Colts Neck Inn who left the 74-cent tip on a $119.26 bill.
O'Scanlon tweeted out a picture of the receipt, which included the man's name – calling him a ‘jerk.’
O'Scanlon is drawing support, but also concern that an elected official was calling out a private citizen.
He says he stands by his decision to type out his concerns on Twitter.
