The NYPD posted on its Twitter page that an officer has committed suicide, the ninth to do so this year -- and just a day after another NYPD officer committed suicide in Yonkers.
According to officials, the 56-year-old was a 25-year veteran of the force.
Officials say he killed himself Wednesday in Queens.
Of all the suicides, seven of them have happened since June.
The department posted a message on Twitter with information for officers who may need help, saying in part, “to anyone who may be struggling, know that there is support available.”
If you need help or know someone who does, the phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 800-273-TALK or log on to suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
