Boogie Down Bites: Bronx Soul Food

A new restaurant in Allerton is giving Bronx residents the chance to enjoy soul food without having to travel outside the borough.
Bronx Soul Food has quickly made a name for things like its saucy ribs, baked chicken topped with herbs and collard greens, but manager Philip Duncan says it’s his signature mac and cheese that really stands out.
"Takes you back to back in the day to when your mama makes some really authentic good soul food,” says Duncan.
He says the key to the dish is, of course, the cheese and making sure there is a lot of it.

"So basically, it's a home secret recipe that my mom created, and everything that we use and what we do here everything runs through that same ingredients,” says Duncan.

Duncan says unlike traditional soul food, fat isn't used in preparing any of the items here, making it healthier for your body. However, he promises the flavor is always authentic.

"In the ingredients that we put together to create the taste that we have. That zest. You're like ‘wow, I need to go back here. I got to have this food. I've got to go there again,’" says Duncan.
