Protesters were seen outside of Bergen County Jail Saturday after the air conditioning in the jail malfunctioned.
The jail houses both inmates and detainees. Officials say the air conditioner should be working now and they're performing random checks on the temperature.
The sheriff's office says the air conditioning malfunctioned around 9:30 p.m. Friday and any affected inmates were moved to a "suitable environment."
Gov. Phil Murphy tweeted he was "deeply disturbed" by this and his office will continue to work with local officials to ensure safe and humane conditions.
