Rethink Food collects excess ingredients to make meals for the hungry

A nonprofit organization is hoping to help the hunger problem with leftovers.
Rethink Food collects excess food from restaurants, farms, events and even food vendors. They take the repurposed ingredients and create new meals that go to other nonprofits in the borough.
The nonprofit was founded by a former chef at Eleven Madison Park, Matt Jozwiak.
"We go around the city all day collecting excess food," Jozwiak says. "We make delicious, beautiful meals out of it. We pack it in containers, we label it with an expiration date, we take it and then the other nonprofits come and pick it up."
Other nonprofits say that Rethink Food is a fantastic idea to address food waste.
Rethink Food NYC says they want to make a dent in the 42 million people who face hunger in the country. Their goal this year is to serve 500,000 meals.
So far, they have already served 40,000 meals.
