WEST LONG BRANCH -

A three-alarm fire ripped through an abandoned home in West Long Branch that once belonged to a former mayor.

The fire happened early Tuesday morning at the home on Norwood Avenue.

According to the fire chief, it was an abandoned three-story home dating back to the 1800s.

The fire chief says the home has been abandoned for at least 20 years, last belonging to a former mayor.

The entire house was engulfed with flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

There is no word on how the fire started.
