City officials launch initiative to keep beaches clean and safe

There is a new city wide cleanup effort to keep city beaches safer and cleaner.
The effort is part of the “Clean Streets Clean Beaches” campaign.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Sanitation held a news conference Monday raising awareness to keep all city beaches clean. The Department of Environmental Protection is also a participating agency.
Trash can be found all over Coney Island Beach, but this is nothing new to beachgoers.
“We came with the kids to the beach, and there were broken vodka glass bottles all throughout the bottom of the water right when you walk in,” says Traci who frequents the beach with her family.
She hopes the campaign sparks new interest.
“Everyone needs to do their part, really to cleanup keep the beaches beautiful,” Traci says.
