Edison water main break causes major flooding; now containedPosted: Updated:
A water main break in Edison caused major flooding and loss of water pressure for several hours for many residents.
Utility workers say they received a call around 5:40 a.m. Saturday about the break near Middlesex County College.
News 12 has also received calls this morning from residents to report depleted water pressure.
Water was gushing out of the ground on Executive Avenue in the Heller Industrial Park. It has since been contained.
New Jersey American Water officials say water is back on after being shut off Saturday morning. The 16-inch pipe still needs to be replaced.
The City of Edison issued a statement that water pressure will remain sporadic and that brown may come out of the tap. However, American Water has not issued a boil water advisory. If customers find dirty water in their tap, they are advised to run cold water until it is flushed out.
The cause of the break is unknown.
