Pig ear dog treats recalled for possible salmonella confirmation

Pet Supplies Plus is recalling Pig Ear Treats after an announcement made by the CDC and FDA that they are looking into a suspect link between the treats and human cases of salmonella.
According to the FDA, salmonella found in the treats can infect people, either from handling the product -- or directly from a dog that becomes ill.
The retailer recalled pig eat treats that were put in bins and sold individually. Pre-packaged brands have not been recalled.

Forty-five people in 13 states have been diagnosed with salmonella-related illnesses. But none of the cases have been confirmed to be a result from purchasing the product.
The treats were distrusted to Pet Supplies Plus locations in states that include New Jersey.
