It was an exciting day for dozens of children Friday who were off to Camp Junior for the summer.
About 50 children and teens from Madison Square Boys and Girls Club will attend the grand opening of Camp Junior in Harriman State Park.
Camp Junior, named in memory of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz, the young Bronx boy who was murdered by members of the Trinitrio gang, will continue to keep Junior’s memory alive for years to come.
"Now, I don't have the words to express and say thank you and God bless you to everyone who has been supportive for my son, Junior,” says Junior’s mom, Leandra Feliz.

This summer there's going to be four sessions all of them running for two weeks with over 300 children are enrolled.

“I'm happy to announce today, working with Cuomo who donated 47 acres of Harriman State Park, working with the Fresh Air Fund, with the family members, we made this happen. I put in $1 million and we also have the speaker of the Assembly. If it wasn't for the speaker this couldn't have happened,” says Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

The goal of the camp is to give Bronx children an opportunity to step out of their comfort zones.

Next year, Camp Junior is expected to open its doors to 1,000 more children in the Bronx raging from 9 to 13 years old.
