Police: 2 charged in road-rage stabbing of retired officer in East New York
News 12 is told two people are in custody after a retired NYPD officer was stabbed in East New York.
It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Livonia and Alabama avenues.
Police say they have charged 33-year-old Michael Bruton with assault, criminal possession of a firearm, menacing, unlawful possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident.
They've also charged 22-year-old Haile Ifill with attempted tampering of physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police say the 42-year-old retired officer was driving through the intersection of Livonia and Georgia when he was struck by Bruton, who was on a motorcycle.
Officers say both pulled over to the side of the road and started to argue, and that's when Bruton allegedly showed that he had a gun. From there the argument escalated and somehow the retired officer was stabbed in the arm with an unknown object.
Investigators say, Ifill, the second man charged, has no connection to Bruton, but got involved after the initial collision.
Investigators say the retired officer last worked out of the 53rd Precinct in the Bronx.
He was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to be OK.
