Visitors to a Greenwich beach will now have an easier time moving across the sand.

A ribbon-cutting was held Wednesday at Tod's Point to celebrate the newly installed accessible beach mat. The mat will help those with mobility issues travel on the beach.

First Selectman Peter Tesei cut the ribbon, alongside those who helped make the project possible.

"It's a real exciting piece of equipment that allows people to get down to the water that couldn't get down there before," says Alan Gunzburg, chairman of the Disability Advisory Committee. "If you don't have these types of devices, this kind of accessibility, you're really excluding a portion of your community."

The mat cost about $6,000 and was donated by the Greenwich Lions Club.
