1 dead, multiple people injured in 2 Newark shootings

Authorities say two shootings that happened minutes apart in Newark Tuesday left one person dead and multiple people injured.

The first shooting happened at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Spruce Street around 4 p.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says two women and one man were shot. The man was killed. Officials say that same man was a victim of another shooting about three weeks ago.

Another shooting happened minutes later at 4:05 p.m. on South Orange Avenue, just a mile and a half away. Officials say four men were shot and injured. All four victims have injuries not considered life-threatening, according to officials.

Witnesses described a similar white car at both scenes. The prosecutor's office found a white car with someone inside.

Police have not confirmed if the two shootings are related but say that is a possibility.
