State trooper injured in crash while assisting driver of disabled car on I-95 in Fairfield

A state trooper remains hospitalized Monday after his cruiser was struck by another car on I-95 in Fairfield while he was assisting a driver of a disabled vehicle.

A state trooper was injured on I-95 in Fairfield while assisting a disabled vehicle.
The incident happened Sunday around 2:30 a.m. on I-95 Northbound near Exit 22.
State trooper Gregory Sawicki was pulled over in the median with his emergency lights activated to assist a disabled vehicle, police say.
A third car veered from the left lane and struck Sawicki's police cruiser, which caused his car to be pushed into the disabled vehicle.
 
The trooper had to be extricated from his car and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Sawicki suffered broken bones and fractures, officials say. 
Three other people were involved in the crash and were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for minor injuries.
Police are reminding the public to exercise Connecticut's “Move Over Law," which requires motorists to move over for first responders, emergency vehicles and police vehicles. 
Any witnesses of the accident are asked to contact State Police Troop G at (203) 696-2500.
