Officials: Man killed in Newark fireworks accident identified

NEWARK -

A 23-year-old man from Newark was killed in a fireworks accident overnight, according to officials.

The man has been identified as Antonio Ortiz.

The incident occurred on the 200 block of South Street.

Sources tell News 12 that Ortiz was holding the fireworks close to his chest when it blew up in his hand and caused internal injuries.

Officials say an autopsy is needed to learn more.
