Monmouth & Ocean counties see heavy rain, lots of lightning

Towns across Monmouth and Ocean counties saw lots of rain, along with thunder and lightning during a day of severe weather across the state.
Storm clouds rolled in along the Jersey Shore by Wednesday afternoon as the thunderstorms developed. The rain was steady at times, causing some localized flooding on the roadways. Drivers were forced to slow down a bit on roads like Route 35, but the water quickly dissipated.
There were reports of some homes being struck by lightning due to the amount thunderstorm activity – but officials tell News 12 New jersey that none of the homes suffered any serious damage.
The storms came as parts of northern New Jersey dealt with the aftermath of a tornado, The National Weather Service says that an EF1 tornado hit parts of Sussex County Tuesday, causing widespread damage.
