On Memorial Day, people gathered at Monument Row on Main Street for a ceremony that honored those who lost their lives defending the United States.

Harry Aschoff never met his father, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945. Aschoff was 2 years old at the time.

"I had a hard time when I became 33," Aschoff says. "Because that's what he was when he died, and I felt that I shouldn't live past that. But, I did."

Bill Hughes, who is 95 years old, survived the Battle of the Bulge. He remembers those he fought with who did not survive.

Julia Gargiulo remembers her uncle, who died last year, both at the monument and at home. Her uncle asked her to hang the Marine flag on her house every year after he was put into an assisted living home.
