WOODBRIDGE -

Police say a shoplifting incident led to a stabbing at the Woodbridge Center Mall on Sunday that sent an employee to the hospital and landed five suspects in custody.

Woodbridge police say it was a shoplifting incident that turned into a robbery and led to stabbing. They say a loss prevention officer in Macy's was stabbed in the right arm.

Five suspects were taken into custody after a brief police pursuit. Their identities have not been released at this time.

Police say a tourniquet was applied to the stabbing victim's arm in the ambulance, and the victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A Woodbridge Center Mall spokesperson confirmed that there was an incident Sunday at Macy's, but said there was no impact on shoppers.

Further details were not immediately available.
