Memorial Day weekend marks one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Nearly half of all Americans will take part in this weekend's sales -- but are they really getting bargains?
That depends on what they’re buying, because retail experts say that some deals are better than others.
Some of the biggest potential savings are on mattresses, where shoppers can save 50 percent or more. Good deals can also be found on kitchen appliances and electronics, although TV prices won't be quite as low as they were during the week before the Super Bowl.
But for other items, it might be worth resisting the temptation to buy this weekend because experts say you could get better prices if you wait a little longer.
When it comes to computers, the best time to buy is actually in a few months from now, during back-to-school sales. And Apple products are also worth the wait. The company announces its new product line in about two weeks, which means current model prices should drop.
And while you can get outdoor furniture on sale now, experts say those prices will be even lower after Independence Day.
