Welcome sailors! Fleet Week kicks off with parade of ships

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLYN -

Fleet Week New York has officially begun, with more than 2,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guard members making their way into the city, starting with the parade of ships.

The 11-gun salute at Fort Hamilton Army Base kicked off the festivities.

Kids from nearby schools watched on as the parade of ships went through.

The community got a chance to not only meet some of the brave men and women in our military, but also to check out some of their equipment and vehicles.

This is the 31st annual Fleet Week New York celebration.

Events will run through May 28.
