An occupied sailboat remained anchored off the Bradly Beach coast Monday evening, despite rainy weather and rougher seas.
Coast Guard officials received several reports Sunday from concerned citizens who thought that the vessel was in distress out in the ocean. But when crews went out to the boat the captain refused to leave.
The captain of the boat only speaks Italian, so there is a language barrier. Coast Guard members gave him a lifejacket, but he refused to take an emergency radio.
Officials say that they are not sure where the boat came from or is going.
The captain is not breaking any laws by anchoring at sea, so officials say that they will continue to monitor the boat from the shore.
