Police: Man tries to attack, rob pregnant woman in Newark

NEWARK -

Newark police are looking for a man who they say tried to attack and rob a pregnant woman.

Officials say that the woman was attacked Wednesday morning on the 400 block of Market Street near Newark Penn Station.

Police say that the attacker grabbed the woman by the neck and tried to steal her gold chain. But the woman fought back and the suspect ran off, according to police.

The woman treated for some bruises but both she and the unborn baby are expected to be OK.

The suspect is a black man who was seen wearing a hooded shirt, tan jacket and dark pants.
