Crews have demolished what was left of a mixed-use building that was severely damaged by a fire in Paterson Monday morning.

The fire in the three-story building on River Street in Paterson broke out shortly before 1 a.m. Monday. Witnesses say heavy flames burned throughout the structure, which housed several businesses and apartments.

“I lost a lot of money in there, but it’s not like the people who lived here,” says business owner Alvaro Granados. “The karate instructor. He’s been there for 33 years. He lost everything.”

Authorities say at least three people, including a toddler, were displaced by the fire. But no injuries were reported.
