A teacher at James J. Ferris High School in Jersey City has been charged with assault for allegedly pulling the hair of a student.
School board officials told News 12 that the teacher in question claims they were just horsing around with the student. They say the student disagreed with that assessment.
Jersey City Public Schools say the alleged incident happened late Friday afternoon. School officials could not release the names of the teacher or the student since the incident is under investigation.
The teacher has been pulled from school and will report to the school district's central office on Monday.
School district officials promised a thorough and fair investigation. They say they notified parents about the alleged incident immediately after it occurred.
The superintendent confirmed that the teacher was suspended with pay, pending administrative action.
