Amtrak is conducting work on its rail lines this summer, which will have an impact on New Jersey Transit services, according to officials.
The track work at New York Penn Station begins June 17 and is expected to last until Sept. 6. The work will prompt changes for three NJ Transit rail lines.
According to NJ Transit officials, the schedule changes will impact the Montclair-Boonton, North Jersey Coast, Morris and Essex and Midtown Direct Lines. Many of the trains that typically end at New York Penn Station will instead divert to Hoboken Terminal.
Full details of the schedule changes can be found on NJ Transit’s website.
NJ Transit Executive Director Kevin Corbett says that he wants to assure his customers that the work will be completed on time.
"I think in the last year we have done a tremendous amount of work with Amtrak very favorably in the amount of announcements and the number of projects that are now moving ahead between New Jersey Transit and Amtrak,” he says. “On the engineering level, we really drill down on the specifics of each project and much more specificity on flagging and outages on all of our projects. I have a higher degree of confidence in Amtrak to deliver on this.”
The Montclair-Boonton Line fares will be adjusted to offset the cost of PATH or NY Waterway Ferry as travel options into Manhattan during the time.
