Prosecutor: Man faces weapons charges after posting video on Snapchat

A Piscataway man is facing weapons charges after he posted a video on Snapchat featuring one of the guns, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Darryl Maddox, 32, was charged with possession of an assault weapon and a large capacity ammunition magazine, and the destruction of evidence. Piscataway police say that Maddox threw away the gun and ammunition magazine prior to his arrest.
Piscataway police began the investigation after receiving reports of an “alarming” video posted on the social media platform. The video depicts a person holding “an assault type of weapon” with the caption “Maybe Tomorrow” with the location of Piscataway.
Although the video did not mention any specific threat or target, security was increased at all Piscataway schools Wednesday. School officials say that this is not the first social media threat that the district has had to deal with.
"The downside is that as much as we try to teach responsible use of social media, there are some that have not gotten the message. And I think that we need to constantly re-enforce this message among students,” says Superintendent Teresa Rafferty.
