NYPD: NJ man arrested after walking into St. Patrick’s Cathedral with gas cans

A New Jersey man is in custody after he walked into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan, allegedly carrying gasoline canisters.
The NYPD says that the incident happened Wednesday night at the Midtown church. The 37-year-old man was spotted carrying two gas cans, along with two butane lighters and lighter fluid.
When he was stopped by security, the allegedly told security that he had run out of gas in his vehicle. But police say that when he was questioned further, his story did not add up.
The man, who was not identified, was taken into custody and is being questioned by police.
NYPD officials say that it is too early to say if the man had any terroristic intentions.
The incident comes just days after the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was badly damaged by fire.
It also comes amid an announcement by the New Jersey State Police about increased patrols near churches and synagogues as the holy holidays of Easter and Passover approach.
