The Dunes Boardwalk Cafe on the Ocean Grove boardwalk was consumed by flames and smoke Saturday, leaving the structure as a total loss.
Shaun Golden, the sheriff of Monmouth County, told News 12 they received calls about the fire around 11:28 a.m. It was contained to the popular eatery, but a shift in wind caused continuing flare-ups through the afternoon.
There was nobody in the building at the time of the incident and there were no major injuries. Golden says two firefighters suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation, but were expected to be OK.
There was no timeline for when fire marshals would be able to inspect the structure to find what sparked the blaze.
The Dunes Boardwalk Cafe took nearly three years to recover after Superstorm Sandy. It was just a block north of a 2017 fire that damaged or destroyed seven buildings.
