Gusty winds help feed wildfire in South Jersey
The gusty wind Wednesday helped to feed two big fires that were left burning into Thursday morning – one in South Jersey and another in Brooklyn, but firefighters were able to get both under control.
According to Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst fire officials, the fire is contained and never made it off the base, which is goal number one when dealing with a wild fire that big.
More than 600 acres burned on a military base surrounded by two towns, Pemberton and Browns Mills.
As soon as the fire started, firefighters on the base, as well as from those towns, Burlington County and State Forestry were on a mission to keep it from spreading.
