Stratford beach named after former Sen. George Gunther

A section of Long Beach in Stratford now bears the name of the town's longest serving state senator.
Officials unveiled a sign Monday dedicating the beach to the late George "Doc" Gunther.
Gunther served in the Connecticut legislature from 1966 to 2006.
The former senator was a noted conservationist.
The new name was assigned to the area by action of the Town Council in June of 2018.
Gunther's family and Mayor Laura R. Hoydick were all at the ceremony and dedication.
