Toddler among multiple people hurt in Mastic Beach crash

A toddler was among multiple people hurt in a Mastic Beach crash Wednesday morning.
Police say a man driving a 2006 Nissan sedan blew through a stop sign and crashed into a 2017 Toyota around 11 a.m. at Neighborhood and Flower roads. The impact caused the Toyota to flip onto its roof. After hitting the SUV, the Nissan slammed into Eric Sprague's Jeep and his garage.
A 2-year-old boy in the back of the Nissan suffered critical injuries. Police say he was taken to Long Island Community Hospital, and then transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital. Two other passengers in the Nissan were also taken to Stony Brook -- one with serious head injuries and the other with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The Toyota driver and her one passenger were hospitalized with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police say the driver of the Nissan left the scene.
Sprague and other neighbors say drivers often whiz through the area and that accidents are too common.
