Senator Menendez: U.S. Coast Guard grants proposed restrictions for marine traffic in Kearny

All marine traffic on the Hackensack River that requires the portal bridge in Kearny to open will stop for several hours during the day, effective immediately, says Senator Bob Menendez.
Menendez says the U.S. Coast Guard has granted his proposed restrictions to reduce the risk of a malfunction. Marine traffic that requires the portal bridge to open will come to a halt from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Malfunctions along the 108-year-old bridge often delay commuters. Menendez calls this change a temporary fix to a much lager problem.
There will be limited exceptions due to tidal restrictions. This change will be in effect for six months with the possibility of an extension
