A New Jersey firefighter is the first recipient of Felician University’s new local hero award.

Rutherford volunteer firefighter Tyler Hanson was driving to work in Passaic when he saw smoke coming out of a home. He got out of his car, banged on the door and helped rescue three people who were inside.

Hanson then struck around and helped put out the fire.
