Hoboken LepreCon calmer, quieter than previous years

Hoboken’s annual St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl was noticeably quiet this year, with public intoxication becoming less of an issue, according to police.
Hoboken police say that there were four LepreCon-related arrests this year – same as the previous year. But that other police calls were down – 322 service calls down from 366 in 2018. Police also issued 12 city ordinance violations, down from 37 the previous year.
The arrests included drug possession, driving while intoxicated and one instance of domestic violence.
Hoboken police also say that there were not any reports of sexual assault or sexual contact during the event.
The LepreCon celebration started several years ago after the demise of the Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade. City officials canceled the parade at the time due to the amount of public intoxication that typically occurred.
But Hoboken City officials have often clashed with LepreCon organizers over how the event was held. There is typically a large police presence in the city during the event.
A calmer LepreCon comes after a wilder SantaCon pub crawl in Hoboken. The December event saw 14 arrests and 33 summonses for public intoxication and public urination.
