Advocates for Liberty State Park want a state law that would ban any major building there, following years of fighting development in the park.

The park in Jersey City has been coveted by developers because of its views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline.

But, a bill now introduced in the state legislature would ban large-scale development.

"The Liberty State Park Protection Act will ensure that this great American park will be free and green for future generations," says Sam Pesin, with Friends of Liberty State Park. "This act would prevent the kind of major privatization plans that have assaulted the park for decades."

Several Hudson County lawmakers are sponsoring the bill.
