New school rules: Limos and luxury cars banned for HS prom
Seniors at Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque are now banned from taking limos and other luxury cars to prom, according to new school rules.
According to the rules, students must take school-provided, chaperoned coach buses to and from the venue in Rockleigh in early June.
The buses are scheduled to leave at 6:15 p.m. and return at 11:45 p.m.
School officials say it's the best thing for student safety.
"We are concerned about our kids, it's always been about our kids and we just want them to be safe have a great time and enjoy their prom," Superintendent Hugh Beattie says. "We want to make sure we get them to their prom safely and get them back to our campus safely."
No parents or students will be allowed to drive to the venue, and no limos or party buses will be allowed on the school grounds.
Seniors are worried the new move could take away from their full prom experience.
Superintendent Beattie stresses that there have been no incidents at Lakeland that sparked the decision this year. He says that he hopes busing to and from prom becomes standard protocol.
