Prosecutor: Elderly man assaulted after confrontation over MAGA hat

An 81-year-old man was allegedly assaulted after a confrontation over his red “Make America Great Again Hat” that is popular with supporters of President Donald Trump.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says that incident happened Monday afternoon at a Franklin Township supermarket on Elizabeth Avenue. Officials say that the man was confronted about his hat and then assaulted. He sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention.

Investigators from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Franklin Township Police Department are involved in the case.
