Stunning video out of New York captures ice hitting the Fort Erie shoreline after an ice boom gave way in Lake Erie.
High winds caused the shift in the ice.
Large chunks of ice could be seen slamming into the wall.
The ice boom, which is installed every winter, prevents large chunks of ice from flowing down the river.
The highest wind gust recorded so far in that area was 74 mph.
A voluntary evacuation was in order for residents after ice pushed against homes in areas including Hoover Beach in Hamburg, New York.
The fire department went door to door accounting for people in the area.
