Nurses at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Bushwick protested Wednesday over what they call the lack of staff and quality of care their patients are receiving.
The nurses joined thousands of others across the city in a day of protest. They're demanding better working conditions and higher pay.
The nurses say they love taking care of their patients, but can't always do it efficiently because of the lack of necessary resources.
"The nurses become overworked," says registered nurse Tanisha Thompson. "They don't take their breaks. They become exhausted and it shows. The patients complain because we can't answer the call bells fast enough or deliver the care in a timely fashion. We just don't have enough."
The president and CEO of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center says the nurses are simply asking for basic rights.
Local lawmakers are working on getting legislation passed that will help solve the issues.
