Doctor: Violence in teen relationships can start as early as middle school
A doctor at St. Barnabas Hospital says that violence in teenage relationships can be seen as early as middle school and is most prevalent in high school.
Dr. Kanani Titchen, who runs an adolescent teen clinic, says studies show that 1 in 5 teenagers are victims of psychological dating violence.
She also says most of the abuse within teenage relationships is psychological, and with most teenagers now interacting through cellphones it's another way a teenage abuser can control their partner.
Titchen says changes can be seen in victims of abuse and there are a number of signs to look out for as a friend or parent, including isolation.
February marks National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
