Police: Man dies after getting run over by tractor-trailer while trying to take shortcut

A man has died after he was run over by the driver of a tractor-trailer after trying to take a shortcut at a gas station in Edison.
The incident happened Tuesday around 9:30 p.m.
Neal Patel, 30, of Princeton, died over the weekend at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
According to police, Patel crawled under a stopped tractor-trailer at the Raceway station on Route 1 near Wooding Avenue to take a shortcut.
Police say the tractor-trailer pulled away, apparently unaware he dragged Patel about 10 feet, badly injuring him.
Patel was also struck by four rear tires.
The driver, a Farmington Hills, Michigan resident, does not face any charges in connection with the accident.
