Massive fire breaks out at Carteret car lot

CARTERET -

A massive fire erupted at a car lot in Carteret Sunday.

The fire broke out at the Harbor Freight Transportation Corporation on the 700 block of Federal Boulevard.

News 12 has learned that the lot insures wrecked cars.

Officials say the fire started in one of the cars on a rack and spread to other racks and other aisles of cars.

They say about 30 cars were damaged, but the number could climb.

While the cars are all insurance wrecked cars, it’s still a high value loss.

News 12 has been told that fires have happened in the lot previously.

Crews got the fire under control, but were working to put out hotspots Sunday evening.
