A Rochelle Park man is accused of causing significant bodily injury, including scarring, to a person he was allegedly performing unlicensed surgery upon.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office says that Young Hwan Choi was performing unlicensed laser treatments out of the Shil La Barber Shop that he owns, even though he is not a doctor.
Authorities say that the victim filed a complaint with the Palisades Park police this month alleging that Choi performed the treatment on her face in November 2017. The surgery left injuries and scars on her face and chin.
Investigators say that Choi is not a doctor and is not licensed to perform medicine or surgery. He was charged with aggravated assault and unlicensed practice of medicine and surgery.
Officials say that there could be other patients who were injured by Choi and they are urging those patients to contact Palisade Park police to report the incident.
Choi is expected to appear in court Feb. 6.
